When it comes to divorce and family law, Lesa Christenson keeps you focused on what matters most – achievable results that put you in the best position possible to move forward with your life.
Lesa is a Certified Family Law Specialist* with 34 years of legal experience. Her focus is 50% litigation and 50% mediation.
Lesa knows that cases often change course during the divorce process. While a case may start out amicably, the client may need more aggressive representation if critical issues, such as custody, child support or spousal support, cannot be amicably resolved. Lesa is adept at recognizing the need to change course in a case, and to implement the changes necessary to protect her clients’ interests.
Lesa has over 15 years of prior civil litigation experience in handling a broad range of business, construction and real estate disputes at her former law firm, Hillyer & Irwin. This makes her particularly well-suited to handle divorce cases for owners of businesses and other financially complex estates.
While at her former law firm, Lesa was successful in convincing a diverse group of over 20 men to elect her the firm’s first woman partner in its 81-year history. She brings that valuable skill of persuasion to her Family Law practice.
As a founding partner of ABC Family Law in 2000, Lesa is committed to providing her clients with the education, structure and support needed to navigate the complexities of the legal system. A hallmark of her practice is a written Case Plan to help clients understand the steps involved in their cases. This not only enables clients to make informed choices during the process, it also gives them insight to help plan for their new life, post-divorce.
Lesa has achieved an AV rating from Martindale–Hubbell, a distinction shared by less than 5% of attorneys nationally. She has been a speaker for California Women Lawyers, the San Diego County Bar Association, and the La Jolla Bar Association. She enjoys business development and is the author of, “What Every Lawyer Needs to Know about Family Law.”
